270 Ocean View Drive, Wellfleet

We enjoyed our week very much. The view is exceptional and the sunrises are awesome. The property is rustic with a lot of vintage furniture. The property could use a little more love from the owners. Basic maintenance would make the renters experience better. We had trouble with the refrigerator requiring a someone to come fix it. It might be time for a new one. The electrical outlets all need to be replaced, many will not hold a plug in them. It's also time for a new shower head.

The location of this cottage cannot be beat, and that's why we rented this ocean view house. However, to say it is a 3-bedroom is a bit of a stretch. Also there is only one bathroom; an outdoor shower would really make things easier! We enjoyed the deck and the three-season porch, taking in the views, reading, practicing yoga, eating meals. Short walk to private beach with staircase.

I know this property well and we keep coming back. The owner however should invest in more cutlery and glasses (literally there was not enough), and fixing the outdoor shower

Great week! The home had some nice updates: new 4 slice toaster; new knives; two chairs and a table added to the deck.
I'd suggest checking all electrical outlets though as some do not work.

We just returned from an amazing week at this very special house in Wellfleet. The location is unbeatable. We spent many hours on that deck taking in the spectacular view. This is a classic Cape style beach cottage with picture windows that allow you to appreciate the ocean from the living room couch. It has its quirks (loose sockets, tricky stairs, unsecured screens on the porch) and I would say it's a stretch to call it a 3 bedrooms as the top floor is more like one open space but the proximity to the beach and charm of the home conquers all. Based on a prior review we brought a power strip, a string of lights and our own beach chairs which we used on the deck and were glad we did so. Overall a great spot.

The location of this property was gorgeous! The ocean views were spectacular and the sound of the waves rolling onto the shore was so peaceful. Sunrises over the ocean each morning were stunning. This is truly a special location.

There were however, a few concerns that I had regarding the amenities, etc. These concerns were mentioned in some previous reviews that I had read prior to renting this property. I honestly thought that those concerns were legitimate and that they would have been addressed before renting it in the future. The upstairs lighting in the bedrooms is very poor. Only the lights over the beds worked and it was very dark up there. Also, given that the spiral staircase is tricky, better lighting upstairs would help in navigating them. Some of the outlets don’t hold a plug very well either. These are safety issues that it seems should be addressed.

On the whole, given the location and views, it was very enjoyable.

Overall, excellent! While the street was a bit busier than we expected, there's a feeling of peaceful isolation here. It's mesmerizing to watch the ocean each day (we spotted seals in the surf all day long, every day), and the scrub forest around us teemed with towhees, cardinals, and catbirds during the day and whippoorwills at night. The town beach nearby is more breathtaking and raw than many others on the Outer Cape, but the main highway is less than ten minutes away so you can use this place as a good base for many excursions. The understated vintage charm of the home is relaxing, perfect for feeling like you're truly getting away from it all.

The house gets extremely warm in the hot weather and though there are good fans, it's hard to get any cross ventilation going. We had trouble with the internet service, but the owner and realtor were very responsive and solved the problem quickly. The electrical outlets don't hold plugs very securely. The kitchen equipment is a motley assortment. But these, finally, are quibbles. If you love the ocean, this is your spot.

Thanks for the survey. We were going to email you about some concerns we have with this home.
We've rented this home for about 10 years, and always had a nice time.
It's apparent though that little has been done to the home to update or improve several areas.
Kitchen:
Toaster: only one side pops up when the toast is done-you have to manually pick out the toast. I'd recommend a four-slice toaster as the home sleeps 5 people.
Utensils: there are not enough forks, spoons, knives etc. In some cases, the utensil handles separate from the body. They are relatively cheap as well. I'd suggest replacing them with a more complete set of decent utensils.
Knives: the ones in the wooden block used for slicing etc. are not sharp. It’s a bit frustrating trying to cut a tomato.
Miscellaneous tools: the can opener is basically useless. My wife used it to open tuna cans it was very difficult to use as its rusted. I think the owner should look at all the various tools in the drawer and discard those that are in bad shape and replace them with better quality.
Upstairs bedrooms: the light in the first bedroom from the stairs doesn't work. The light in the second bedroom would flicker on and off. Additionally, there is not enough lights up there and our daughters had to use their cell phones for light.
Lights: most are three-way light switches-only the second switch works.
Deck: the same wooden chairs have been on the deck and in the screened in porch. They are not very comfortable. I'd suggest putting a small round table on the deck with more comfortable chairs so folks could eat outside and enjoy the beautiful view. Folding beach chairs would work.
Electrical outlets: the one in the downstairs bedroom under the desk does not work. This seems to be true in some of the upstairs outlets, but I did not check those. It seems to me that this could be a safety issue as well. I'd suggest an electrician check all th

A quintessential Cape Cod cottage and location with easy access to everything that makes Wellfleet the best spot on the Cape. House is old school beach cottage but plenty of space for all of us and endless views that just don't quit. It's a bit tricky walking down to the beach but you're walking to a private stretch of beach so it's worth it! Endless sand, seals, sunrises on the ocean. Then hop in your car/bike and ride 2 mi to the glacial ponds. Easy back roads help you avoid Rte 6 to get to Wellfleet Center/Bayside. And the bike trail is 1.0 miles from the end of the driveway! We absolutely loved this spot!
A few tips:
If you have mobility issues or little ones, the hike down to beach will be very difficult. Anywhere in Wellfleet requires a steep descent/climb to the beach.
Get the Wellfleet sticker for parking at glacial ponds and public beaches (and it supports the town).
No real outdoor yard so leave the Cornhole, etc at home.
Bring bug spray. Mosquitos swarm hard at sunset!!! But they subside after an hour.
Bring a power strip. There are only 2 outlets with 3 prong.
We brought solar string lights which came in handy on the screen porch and deck as the only light is a typical outdoor light that draws bugs. But you can turn it all off and watch stars forever!

Tree branches and brush obstructing view that could be trimmed back. Overall great stay and would recommend.

This is the 19th year we've rented 270 Oceanview Dr. The cottage has become a home away from home for us. The amenities are modest at best, but we rent it solely for the view and location. We have often whale watched from the living room! This year we were treated to the planet Venus, so brilliant, it cast a bright light on the ocean. You also see paragliders sail by the house all the time. The bike trail is a mile away, although the half-mile hill leading back to the house can be challenging. The place is cozy and convenient to PBs Boulangerie, which has the best pastry on the Cape, and a 10-minute drive into Wellfleet. Suggestion: The family should consider making a few upgrades, e.g. fixing the front screen door, a better TV set and some decent beach chairs and folding table for the deck.

This clean and comfortable cottage was perfect for a relaxing stay in Wellfleet. Very well-equipped kitchen and comfortable downstairs bedroom and living area. The staircase to the upstairs bedrooms might be difficult for families with small children.
